As anonymous sources impugn President Trump’s views on the military, 235 retired generals and admirals have just publicly endorsed Trump as “the proven leader to confront” the dangers facing America at home and abroad. Amidst the ongoing violent riots and anti-police rage across the country, their emphasis on domestic threats to America is particularly significant.
The sheer volume of former flag and general officers endorsing Trump makes the seventy-three former Republican national security officials who recently came out against President Trump, pale in comparison. It should also give pause to any Republicans who may have been swayed by those Never-Trumpers’ endorsement of Joe Biden.
These pro-Trump officers’ views cannot be clearer. In contrast to the Obama-Biden administration, they state in their public letter supporting POTUS, “President Trump’s resolute stands have deterred our enemies from aggression against us and our allies.”
Trump’s forceful ongoing stand against a belligerent and expansionist China, and his decisive strike against Iran’s terror mastermind Qasem Soleimani, immediately come to mind.
The 235 retired flag and general officers also contrast Trump’s robust investment in America’s defense to the “ill-considered and debilitating” military budget cuts made under Obama-Biden and warn that “Democrats have once again pledged to cut defense spending, undermining our military strength.”
They add – most accurately in my view – that “the proposed defense cuts by the Democrats will, in our professional judgment, create a potentially perilous situation for the United States during a time of great external and internal threats to our Nation.”
But these senior national security leaders don’t only worry about America’s foreign enemies, they are equally concerned about the domestic threats to the country – and rightly see both serious dangers as intertwined. This volatile mix of severe domestic unrest coupled with critical foreign threats makes the 2020 election one of the most consequential in recent history.
As they state this election “affords the American people an urgently needed opportunity to affirm their devotion to the Constitution of the United States and to the American way of life.”
These retired officers also don’t mince word when they condemn the Democrat Party’s “opposition to border security, their pledge to return to the disastrous Iran nuclear deal, their antagonism towards the police and planned cuts to military spending will leave the United States more vulnerable to foreign enemies.”
Their strongest words, however, come when they state that “With the Democratic Party welcoming to socialists and Marxists, our historic way of life is at stake.” This may be the biggest threat to America in 2020.
For all these stated reasons, these senior American defense leaders unequivocally state their belief that – “As president, he [Trump] will continue to secure our borders, defeat our adversaries, and restore law and order domestically.”
And they urge their fellow Americans to join them “in supporting the re-election of Donald Trump for President.”
Clearly retired generals and admirals are not always right, but when 235 of them come out this strongly for the President, those Americans concerned about national security and the country’s future may want to take notice.
