ANALYSIS – Suddenly, once the election was over, and the feds admitted they had been investigating Hunter Biden’s shady foreign business deals, the establishment media, which had blacked out any coverage before, suddenly discovered it is actually a story. Among the stories now appearing, NBC News reported on emails to Hunter Biden from his laptop that shows he failed to disclose at least $400,000 in income on his 2014 tax returns from the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
As I previously reported, we now know that Hunter has been the subject of a federal tax probe since 2017, and these probes appear to also include issues of money laundering and fraud.
Tax deception is often an attempt to hide illicit income, in this case from foreign sources in Ukraine, Russia, and China.
Hunter, who I have noted previously, was a “trainwreck” with drug and other addictions, financial problems, and zero relevant experience, was making this significant foreign income while his father Joe Biden, was vice president and intimately involved in Ukraine and these other countries.
The national security questions are — what did Joe Biden know and when? And more importantly, has Joe lied, and did he make money himself from those infamous “10% for the big guy” references noted in some of the emails?
Now NBC accepts that the emails from Hunter’s laptop as credible, after claiming (along with almost every other establishment media source) that they could not be “verified.”
NBC reported that, though they could not independently verify whether the email is authentic and unaltered, they provided a copy of the email to the company spokesperson who did not dispute its authenticity. So why didn’t they do this earlier, instead of simply saying they couldn’t be verified and falsely dismissing the story as possible Russian disinformation?
Hunter Biden’s former business partner sent him an email in 2017 saying he did not disclose on his tax returns $400,000 in income from the Ukrainian natural gas company where he sat on the board, according to a copy of the email obtained by NBC News.
The message from Eric Schwerin, then president of Rosemont Seneca Partners, says Hunter Biden would need to “amend” his 2014 returns to reflect the “unreported” income, according to the copy of the email.
“In 2014 you joined the Burisma board and we still need to amend your 2014 returns to reflect the unreported Burisma income,” says the email dated Jan. 16, 2017.
According to NBC News, that’s not all. The email also shows that he made more than $1.2 million for the year from Burisma, Rosemont Seneca Advisors, and a law firm.
Let’s recall, as the Hill reported, that at the second presidential debate, Joe Biden said “Nothing was unethical,” referring to Trump’s accusations about Hunter Biden’s questionable business deals. Biden also disputed that his son made money doing business in China, before deflecting and trying to turn the question on Trump.
So, how much money did Hunter make from these foreign business deals with Ukraine, Russia, China, et al., while his father was VP?
In a 2019 interview with ABC News referenced by NBC News, Hunter admitted he was likely given the board seat at Burisma because of his father and acknowledged joining Burisma was “poor judgment.” He added, “In retrospect, look, I think that it was poor judgment on my part.”
Most observers would now agree with him.
Republican allegations that then-Vice President Biden had forced out a Ukrainian prosecutor to quash an investigation into Burisma that could implicate Hunter were widely discredited at the time. Now we see that they should not have been, and this issue needs to be revisited.
The question of what Joe Biden knew about Hunter’s foreign business deals (that apparently made him millions), when he knew it, whether he lied about, and worse, profited from them, should now become a major national security question.
Maybe now the establishment media will finally actually start doing its job rather than providing partisan cover for one U.S. political party over the other.
