Updated reporting of secret talks between former top Obama-Biden officials – now currently in the Biden administration – and the terror-sponsoring regime in Iran – while Trump was president – are raising serious national security questions. Even as Trump was ratcheting up his ‘maximum pressure’ campaign against the Mullahs in Tehran, these current Biden officials were actively engaging the regime ‘off-book’ in an apparent push their own agenda, and to undermine Trump.
According to a report from the Washington Times, several senior members of the prior Obama-Biden administration, now currently part of Team Biden, and in apparent violation of the Logan Act which prohibits private dealings with foreign governments in matters of state, opened secret, back-channel talks with, among others, Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif.
Democrats regularly cited the Logan Act to attack Trump aides such as Michael Flynn for contacts with Russians before Trump’s 2017 inauguration. This, even though Flynn, at the time, was part of the Trump national security transition team.
The current Biden officials involved in this subversive collusion include former Secretary of State John Kerry, now Boden’s climate Czar, and Robert Malley, formerly Obama’s Middle East Advisor, and now Biden’s Special Envoy to Iran, as well as Obama-era Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. They were the top U.S. negotiators of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), also known as Obama’s Iran nuclear deal.
As The Times notes, this was a long-term ‘influence operation’ being carried out by Tehran with soft-on-Iran American liberals eager to engage the terror regime. And it went deeper than that. It appeared to actively engage former U.S. government officials to undermine and sabotage the Trump administration’s official dealings with Iran. The Times wrote:
The attempt at counter diplomacy offers a window into the deep relationships Mr. Zarif forged with influential U.S. liberals over the past decade. These relationships blossomed into what high-level national security and intelligence sources say allowed the Iranian regime to bypass Mr. Trump and work directly with Obama administration veterans that Tehran hoped would soon return to power in Washington.
Specifically, reported The Times, when President Trump “sought to open a back channel of communication with top Iranian officials and saw the U.N. General Assembly meeting in September as a potential opportunity to defuse escalating tension with Tehran,” the effort failed, likely due to the secret talks begun by the Obama-Biden team two months earlier.
According to one former senior U.S. official the Iranian foreign minister held secret meetings throughout the Trump years, 2017-2019, before the administration finally cancelled his visa in 2020.
The objective of these meetings, the official said, was “to devise a political strategy to undermine the Trump administration” and to continue support for the Iranian nuclear deal, or another deal like it, that could be restarted if a Democrat returned to the White House in 2021.
The Iranian regime has established a broad web of sympathetic left-leaning organizations and groups in the United States to further its interests. And it knows how to manipulate them with precision.
“America is not just a government in the White House. America is a collection of public opinion, pressure groups and studies. These factors are pushing politics forward,” Mr. Zarif told a May 2018 meeting with members of the Iranian Parliament, as quoted by the Al Arabiya news channel, reported The Times.
Apparently – and deeply troubling – current top Biden national security officials appear to be part of that subversive pro-Iranian web inside our country.
