HOMELAND SECURITY – As President Biden quickly reversed many of former President Trump’s firm border and immigration policies, waves of illegal migrants have surged toward the U.S. border. I wrote about this here and here. Many unaccompanied children included in these swarms are ending up in the same ‘cages’ Democrats bashed Trump for using, after he inherited them from President Obama.
All this, even as COVID continues to rage south of the border.
Officials in border states have said some illegal migrants are testing positive for COVID-19 but aren’t being forced to stay in quarantine, fueling concerns that these illegal aliens are spreading the disease when released into local communities.
And the illegal migrant crisis is on the way to becoming the worst in decades, according to Biden’s own DHS Secretary. In a statement from Alejandro Mayorkas, the U.S. government is “on pace to encounter more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years.”
Customs and Border Protection reports encountering more than 100,000 migrants at the U.S. border in February alone.
House Republicans flew to Texas on Monday and toured a border facility and spoke with border agents. They urged Biden to visit the border to see for himself the crisis he is creating. However, Biden, who refuses to call the exploding situation at the border a ‘crisis,’ said on Tuesday that he has no plans for now to visit the southern border.
Asked before boarding Marine One in Washington whether he has plans to visit the border, Biden told reporters: “Not at the moment.” Instead, he flew to his home in Wilmington, Delaware, where he spends most of his weekends.
Meanwhile, Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia strongly disagrees with the President . Manchin says that Team Biden is sending the wrong message and insists there is definitely a crisis at the border again.
“Whatever message was sent [by Biden]— it was sure interpreted the wrong way,” Manchin told CNN in an interview Monday night. “It’s a crisis, oh, it’s a crisis.”
Sadly, this crisis was predictable and is self-created. As noted by The Blaze:
From day one, President Joe Biden sought to strike a completely different tone on immigration policy from the previous administration. He reversed several of President Donald Trump’s border policies, including ending Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) requiring asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for processing and limiting Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s enforcement actions against most illegal immigrants. The president also vowed to sign legislation granting amnesty and U.S. citizenship to 11 million illegal immigrants. [Others estimate the true numbers upwards of 15 million]
These efforts and Biden’s promises, which the Mexican government says “incentivize migration,” have made Biden, in the words of Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, “the migrant president.”
As I noted earlier, this is clearly highlighted by large groups of illegal migrants appearing at the border wearing Biden T-shirts saying, “Please let us in,” throwing back at Biden the actions he has taken, and promises he has made. Biden created this crisis. The least he can do is visit the border to see first-hand what his policies and promises have wrought.
