As I wrote earlier, the Army’s latest highly feminine, and soft, ‘two mommies’ recruitment ad has provoked a firestorm of reaction, much of it centered on comparisons with Russian army ads that tout a masculine warrior ethos. In my piece I compare the Army ad to aggressive Russian and Chinese recruitment videos, as well as the more traditional, powerful, and patriotic ad by the US Marines.
The Army’s ‘two mommies’ ad is part of a new series similar to the equally woke CIA ads I wrote about here and here.
What both the woke CIA ads and the Army series have in common is that they the seem to show that neither the spooks nor the soldiers want traditional, heterosexual, white patriotic males to join their outfits. What they also seem to share is a widespread revulsion by a wide swath of the American public.
The Washington Times noted that the “CIA may be in competition with the Army for the most ‘woke’ recruitment ads of 2021.”
The new Army series, titled “The Calling,” posted to YouTube on May 4, showcases real soldiers and their stories in an animated format. The most controversial video features a corporal who discusses her “fairly typical childhood” in which she took ballet and played the violin, and also “marched for equality” with her two moms. In her view this made her a ‘freedom fighter.’ And prepared her to combat the powerful and violent enemies of America, including Russia, China, and assorted terrorists.
Laura DeFrancisco, spokeswoman for the Army Enterprise Marketing Office says the intent of the new commercial series is to “close the relatability gap between Gen Z and the Army by offering a rare look at the people behind the uniform.”.
However, lots of Americans appear to not see it the same way. As Task and Purpose noted:
…just a week after the series was launched, the Army said it had to disable comments on the videos on May 12 after seeing “a significant uptick in negative commentary which … were not aligned with Army values,” according to Laura DeFrancisco… “Out of respect for our soldiers and their families, we have disabled the comments,” she said.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson appears to have a better reading of the pulse of the nation. He said in March: “While China’s military becomes more masculine as it’s assembled the world’s largest Navy, our military needs to become, as Joe Biden says, more feminine — whatever feminine means any more, since [according to the left’s new gender theories] men and women no longer exist.”

In my long life I have never seen such an effort to undermine our forces by demanding them to take oaths to the administration and to encourage the division of the races. Besides what was implied, we do not know why the two Marines “Resigned” their commissions.
I served for 34 years. 14 years as a part-time Guardsmen, and 20 years on active duty. While I felt for much of that time that women should not be in combat, I served with many women who served with distinction and honor. Yes, I did serve with some women who did not carry their weight. I also served with some men who did not measure up. I think most of the women I served with were outstanding examples of professionalism as both NCOs and Officers. As a senior Warrant Officer, I worked with all levels of Soldiers from the Company to the Brigade level. I also worked with members of the Air Force, Marines, and the Navy. I continue to be proud of the men and women of our Armed Services; yes, that includes the Coast Guard.
And as far as how they stack up against other Countries, I would put my faith in the U.S.A.
When I joined in 1980, the military was still recovering from the effects of Vietnam and the lack of public support. I was in for over 24 years when I deployed to Iraq for my first of two tours. I was very humbled by the level of support I was shown by civilians. While it seems that some may have only been parroting what they heard on talk radio, I felt that the majority were sincere in their comments.
So, while many will rant about the current state of things, I encourage all to support our troops, no matter their biological or stated gender.
Mike, your comments give me (I’m 89) a smidgin of Hope; my brother was a Marine in WW2, flying Corsairs off carriers in S. Pacific. He’d be disgusted seeing what’s happening in our country today. My family has served for five generations Two Army of the Potomac Civil War vets – both immigrants and one 16 when he enlisted. He fought in 23 battles/engagements including both Bull Runs and Antiedam – the other I only know he fought for years. My father was in New Guinea during WW!!. I’m a Vietnam and GWI vet. MY youngest son was one of the last Marines out of Syria in 2018. It is an understatement to say we are appalled. Our America we served is gone. I had an Finnish uncle who fought in the Winter Wars against the Red Army and was severely injured and disabled. To quote a Finnish soldier of that war: Finland is such a small country and we Finns are so few and the Reds are so many. Where will be bury them all? I remember talking to Army Recruiters in 1981. I was basically told if you do not think you can handle the Army do not even bother. I had to change for the Army, they were not going to change for me. They should go back to “Be All That You Can Be”-much more inspiring. Times have changed and not for the better.
The Army ad is about ‘proving inner strength’? Seriously? I thought the Army motto was “This we’ll defend”….meaning a constant readiness to defend and preserve the United States – not about young ladies trying to prove their ‘inner strength’. No offense to female combatants of times past, but this is a whole new breed.
We have a beautiful granddaughter presently serving in the Navy. This advertisement made my skin crawl. Who is watching her back?!!! Please say it isn’t so.
Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting my eldest granddaughter’s fiancé who is a West Point graduate and currently serving in Special Forces. I myself having served 23 years in the Army, asked him if he was making the Army a career. His answer was that he was very disappointed in the Army due to the recent woke social trends taking place and plans to leave the Army after his obligation is up next year. How many fine young officers will we be needlessly losing because of the crazy attempts to “remake” our military?
