FOR YOUR EYES ONLY – With the many national security and intelligence topics that American Defense News (ADN) cannot adequately cover every day – in collaboration with the Center for American Defense Studies (CADS) – we are providing our readers a PDB:

Not the President’s Daily Brief, but almost as good – Paul’s Daily Briefing.

Today’s PDB includes a variety of critical issues such as – B-52s fly over all NATO nations for the second time. Citing NATO drills and US bomber flights, Russia to form new military units. Russia’s security strategy envisages ‘forceful methods.’ China sends 16 military aircraft over disputed South China Sea shoals near Malaysia. USS Ronald Reagan strike group conducts exercise with Japan. Meanwhile, Biden’s questionable defense budget leaves analysts scratching their heads.

Plus, former Navy SEAL, and U.S. Representative Dan Crenshaw has launched a webpage for whistleblowers to report instances of what he called “woke ideology” in the military.

Climate change, extremism among absurd ‘military threats’ targeted in DoD budget request.

House Democrats introduce bill to protect transgender military dependents.

Faster than FEDEX – Rocket delivery of cargo anywhere in an hour in the new Air Force budget proposal.

Biden’s Incredibly Shrinking Navy – Analyst says Pentagon ‘walked away from the 500-ship Navy.

Iranian Navy’s massive training warship sinks in the Gulf of Oman due to fire.

And three fixes to prevent another ‘Battle of Lafayette Square’ with militarized responses to riots.

TODAY’S PDB:

Pentagon ‘Woke Watch’

Climate change, extremism among military threats targeted in DoD budget request. The Biden administration is addressing extremism in the ranks, as well as climate change, in its first proposed Defense Department budget.

House Democrats introduce bill to protect transgender military dependents. A group of 39 House Democrats on Tuesday introduced a new bill to ensure that transgender dependents of active-duty service members have access to needed health care.

Former Navy SEAL Representative Dan Crenshaw has launched a webpage for whistleblowers to report instances of what he called “woke ideology” in the U.S. military with the protection of anonymity.

Crenshaw, a Republican who represents Texas’ 2nd congressional district, has set up the facility along with Senator Tom Cotton (R-AK) and announced the move on Twitter on Friday.

Homeland Security

Three fixes to prevent another Battle of Lafayette Square. A year after federal forces violently cleared the park near the White House, the legal loopholes that militarized D.C. remain wide open.

National Security

Biden’s dangerous defense budget leaves analysts scratching their heads. President Joe Biden’s proposed military budget cuts reduce the Air Force fleet and would install a glacial pace in reconstituting the Navy’s coffers, leaving hawkish defense analysts worried about China pulling away.

Afghanistan

Foolish- US to hand Bagram base to Afghan forces in 20 days. The US military will hand over its main Bagram Air Base to Afghan forces in about 20 days, an official said Tuesday, as Washington presses on with withdrawing the last of its troops from the country.

Russia Threat

Russia’s security strategy envisages ‘forceful methods.’ A revised version of Russia’s national security strategy says it may use forceful methods to respond to unfriendly actions by foreign countries, a top Kremlin official said in remarks published Monday.

B-52s fly over all NATO nations for the second time. B-52 aircraft deployed to Europe flew over all NATO nations in a single day, the second time in less than a year that U.S. bombers have flown this show of strength over the continent and North America.

Citing NATO drills and US bomber flights, Russia to form new military units. Russia’s military will form 20 new units in the country’s west this year to counter what it claims is a growing threat from NATO, the defense minister said Monday.

China Threat

USS Ronald Reagan strike group conducts exercise with Japan. Ships and aircraft from the USS Ronald Reagan Carrier Strike Group 5 and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force conducted integrated operations that concluded Saturday, according to the Navy.

China sends 16 military aircraft over disputed South China Sea shoals near Malaysia. China has sent more than a dozen military transport aircraft to the vicinity of disputed shoals in the South China Sea administered by Malaysia, prompting the latter to scramble a fighter jet to investigate.

Iran Threat

Iranian Navy’s massive training warship sinks in Gulf of Oman due to fire. An Iranian navy vessel sank in the Gulf of Oman due to a fire that broke out during a training mission, the Islamic Republic of Iran Army said on Wednesday.

Military

Biden’s Shrinking Navy – Analyst says Pentagon ‘walked away from the 500-ship Navy.’ The Navy’s modest shipbuilding request as part of the Fiscal Year 2022 budget shows the Pentagon has “walked away from the 500-ship Navy,” a senior defense analyst said Tuesday.

Faster than FEDEX – Rocket delivery of cargo anywhere in an hour in new Air Force budget proposal. The U.S. Air Force has released new details about its questionably ambitious plans to develop a capability to send payloads weighing up to 100 tons, including cargo and potentially personnel, roughly equivalent to the maximum load of a C-17 airlifter, anywhere in the world within one hour via a space launch rocket or derivative thereof.
