Nine years ago, following a politically motivated, artificial deadline similar to the one Joe Biden created in Afghanistan, Barack Obama withdrew all U.S. military forces from Iraq prior to the 2012 election. The results were disastrous and directly fueled the rise of ISIS (the Islamic State) which soon engulfed the entire region in bloody terror.
Within a short time, U.S. forces were again engaged in combat in Iraq, as well as Syria and neighboring countries.
Now more than one expert is suggesting that Biden’s similarly disastrous Afghan withdrawal means U.S. troops will also be returning to Afghanistan. Among them is Senator Lindsey Graham, who on Monday predicted the United States “will be going back into Afghanistan” due to the threat of terror.
In an interview with the BBC Graham said that the Taliban will “impose a lifestyle on the Afghan people that I think is going to make us all sick to our stomach.”
“But most importantly,” the Republican Senator noted, “they’re going to give safe haven to Al-Qaeda who has ambitions to drive us out of the Mideast writ large and attack us because of our way of life. We will be going back into Afghanistan as we went back into Iraq and Syria.”
When asked by the BBC host: “You seriously think the United States will once again, in the foreseeable future, put troops back into Afghanistan?”
“We’ll have to because the threat will be so large,” Graham responded. Citing the situations in Iraq and Syria, he predicted that Afghanistan will be a “cauldron for radical Islamic behavior.”
