According to the cybersecurity firm Mandiant, a pro-China cyber organization is waging an “aggressive” influence campaign to discourage Americans from participating in the Midterm Elections. Mandiant says that it previously observed the “DRAGONBRIDGE” group looking to mobilize protesters while sowing division and fake news to American voters. It is unclear if the Chinese-linked group will have any major effect on the outcomes of the 2022 Midterms. However, the latest attack on American elections is shocking.
The Washington Times reports:
“Most notably, in September 2022, DRAGONBRIDGE accounts posted an English-language video across multiple social media platforms containing content attempting to discourage Americans from voting in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections,” Mandiant said in a new report. “The video questioned the efficacy of voting and of U.S. government institutions more broadly.”
There are eight days until Americans lock in their votes and decide whether Democrats or Republicans control the U.S. House and Senate. Many legislative chambers could also flip this cycle due to redistricting, along with gubernatorial races nationwide.
