“Flying Taxis” of the Future are Lifting off

The next generation of travel and aviation is taking off over the fields of rural California. Electric air taxis or eVTOLs are powered by electric batteries and designed to take off like a helicopter but fly like a plane. They are essentially cleaner, quieter helicopters could soon be certified for your own personal use. Most eVTOL companies are targeting fares about equal to an Uber Black trip, which could make them an affordable option.

According to Axios:

eVTOLs are expected to be cheaper to maintain than traditional helicopters because their electric motors have fewer moving parts.

Urban air mobility is billed as the next big thing in transportation — quiet, electric aircraft skipping over congested roadways.

Morgan Stanley projects the market will take off slowly, but will be worth $1 trillion by 2040 and $9 trillion by 2050.

Investors have poured $6 billion into newly public eVTOL manufacturers, including Joby Aviation, Archer Aviation and others.
