Russia warns of “modern, unique” weapons:

In a statement published in the state-run newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta, Security Council Secretary of Russia Nikolai Patrushev warns that Russia possesses modern, unique weapons capable of destroying any adversary, including the United States. Patrushev criticizes what he calls the US’s short-sighted and dangerous propaganda, stating that the US is foolish to believe that it can launch a missile strike against Russia and escape a response. According to Patrushev, Russia does not use its military advantage to intimidate anyone but possesses these modern, unique weapons to defend itself against threats to its existence.

NATO closely monitors Russia’s nuclear posture:

NATO criticized Putin for his announcement of moving tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus, calling the move dangerous and irresponsible. The organization’s spokesperson, Oana Lungescu, stated that they haven’t seen any changes in Russia’s nuclear posture that would lead them to adjust their own. Additionally, the White House National Security Council’s spokesperson, John Kirby, has commented that there is no indication that Putin has started to reposition his tactical nuclear weaponry, and that there is no intention to use nuclear weapons inside Ukraine.

Ukraine accuses Russia of taking another provocative step:

Ukraine has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council, accusing Moscow of taking yet another provocative step to destabilize the international security system. This follows the announcement by Russian President Vladimir Putin that he would move tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus in response to the UK’s decision to provide Ukraine with ammunition containing depleted uranium.

Russia has also criticized the West’s reaction to the visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Moscow, calling it deeply hostile. Secretary of State Antony Blinken condemned Xi’s visit as providing diplomatic cover for Russia’s actions in Ukraine, which he described as atrocities.

The move by Putin has raised concerns among NATO members, with the alliance calling it dangerous and irresponsible.
